India has acheived phenomenal growth rate in last 2 decades. The avg growth rate in last 6 yrs is close to 9%.Today we hve 2 years foreign exchange reserve to meet imports.Industry n services r growing at close to 10%.New modern townships like gurgaon, panvel n noida have emerged in last 2 decades. It seems everything is going excellent. To n observer of overall indicators things r going pretty well in india. But if we will analyse the picture deeply things arn,t normal.
In this article i will analyse the condition of most vulnerable groups in india. The SC (former untouchables)
To an common indian masses dey hve been discriminated after Independence becoz of reservation policy given to SC/ST,S n today dey r the kings while others r servants. As reservation is given to Dalits in all govt services n educational institutions people may assume falsely dat the condition of dalits hve improved enormously after independence n dat today dey r the fastest growing community in india.
The statistics present a completely diffrent picture. The impact of reservation has actually benefited 2-3% of Dalits as more den 90% dalits r engaged in pvt sector for which dere is the no reservation policy.
Dalits constitute 16% of India,s population but dere literacy rate is just 54% which is 11% below the national avg.According to the 2001 census more den two-third of dalits r landless compared to one-third non SC.Only one-third had access to any capital asset compared to two-third non SC.
36% SC,s r poor compared to 21% non SC,S
On an avg 23000 cases of atrocities n human right violation r registered by SC,S but the conviction rate is just 1%.
Out of 800 accredit journlist not a single is a dalit.Out of top 100 industrialist not a single is a dalit.
So far only 2 dalits hve found place as judges in supreme court. No dalit hve been elevated to the post of secretary out of 163 secretaries in govt of india only 5 r dalits.
Dalit enrolement in graduation education is 8.37%.
One intresting feature is dat most of atrocities commited against dalits r not by brahmins or rajputs but by intermediate land-owning castes like yadavs n kurmis in eastern UP Jats n gujjars in western UP.mararthas n kunbis in maharastra.Lingayats in Karnatka. Thus the statistics which i hve provided clearly shows the condition of dalits even after 63% of independence is dismal. The condition of dalits in india r worse den people of central n east africa in all social indicators. Thus our chanting of inclusive growth cannot be successful till we radically alter our current policy n provide opputurnaties to dalits to take part in growth boom of india.
