Those who make non-violent revolution impossible makes violent revolution inevitable these were the golden words of JFK the former US Prez.
On 23rd july 1952 few egyptian soldiers challenged the mighty King farukh who was considered both corrupt and feudal by most poverty ridden egyptians. Thus free officers movement emerged in Cairo under the leadership of general naguib and colonel gamal abdel nasser. That 52 revolution in egypt sow the seeds of arab nationalism in the entire arab world. And same kinds of army coup took place in libya under colonel gadaffi and in syria under hafez al assad n other baathist.
Nasser was the symbol of Pan -arab nationalism for more than 2 decades and when he died in 1970 millions of his supporters gave him the most grand farewell that any leader has ever received in history.
This is the one part of story the second section of story begins 58 years later on 17th december 2010 in Tunis the capital of tunisia by the self -immolation of a petty street vendor mohammed bouazizi. The self -immolation of bouazizi reawakened the extinct feeling of arab-nationalism in the entire arab world. But the major diffrence this time was that with nationalism there also emerged quest for democracy, civil rights and human rights which was missing in earlier arab revolution.
The Jasmine revolution of 2010 was diffrent from the egyptian revolution of 1952 in a way that this revolution was entirely led by common arabs and there was whole-heardtly people,s support to outsted the corrupt ruler while all previous arab revolutions were just military coups where few unsatisfied army officials revolted against the ruler and outsted him there was hardly any people,s participation in it.
The other thing which makes this revolution so special is that the feelings of revolution spillovered to many arab states including egypt,Yemen and Jordan. And this revolution is taking place in the most conservative and closed pockets of World. The world has changed so as the arab world and finally the feeling of democracy has emerged among the arabs.
Till now most of arab rulers have been puppets of the west and west have always used these countries to extract as much oil resources from them as possible. Thus they have supported most oppressive and corrupt regimes in the arab world ranging from king abdullah bin saud in saudi arabia ti zine-abedin ben ali in tunisia.
We can learn many things from this revolution first sometimes small sacrifices make big impact the self-immolation of small vendor has led to outsed of zine-abedin ben ali and also promise by hosni mubarak and yemen prez that they will leave there posts after the expiry of there terms. The winds of revolution is flowing fast in the arab world just see and wait how many more corrupt regimes it will blow with it.
While Nasser was the champion of revolutionary thought among the young arabs of 60,s and 70,s it was bouazizi who was the champion of same feelings in 2010.
The only fear from this revolution is that it can lead islamist to grew stronger and in the midst of turmoil in arab countries they can also occupy power. Thus if they came to power the whole purpose of arab revolution would be defeated. Thus we have to also check the growth of Muslim brotherhood in egypt and other islamist group in Tunisia and Yemen.Because eventhough the regimes in Tunisia and egypt were oppressive the were largely secular.
